Social Development Hub inaugurates Headquarters and Social Academy

The Social Development Hub (SDH) inaugurated its headquarters, Social Academy, and Innovation Laboratory on January 27th in Palmarejo, with the unveiling of a plaque in a ceremony presided over by the Minister of State for Family, Inclusion, and Social Development, Elísio Freire.

The ceremony was also attended by the Head of Cooperation of the European Union Delegation in Cape Verde, Cristóbal Delgado, institutional partners, civil society organizations, universities, community leaders and participants in international initiatives promoted by the SDH.

“"Here we are talking about an ecosystem of people that allows us to create value, create networks, create community," pointed out Cristóbal Delgado.

“"It is a great honor to be here at this symbolic event, which may seem small, but is of extraordinary importance because it aligns with what we want, with the needs of the people," the minister stated in his speech.

“We increasingly see the third sector as one of the areas of strategic investment, because it is through it that we have promoted inclusive growth,” indicated the president of the Social Development Hub, Susana Duarte.

“It was with this desire that SDH was born, strategically based on three platforms: specialized training for the challenges of the Third Sector, through the Social Academy; impact on the ground through the Kumunidadi movement; and the Innovation Laboratory, where the local application of international success stories takes place,“ he added.

The inauguration took place within the framework of the Kick-off Meeting of the project “Safebook Horizons – New Methodologies in Youth Work”, co-financed by the European Commission through the Erasmus+ Youth program, reinforcing SDH's position as a national partner in European international cooperation projects in the area of youth work (more information at “Safebook Horizons”. SDH integrates an international network to promote youth safety and well-being. Social Development Hub). The project held its first international meeting in Cape Verde, between January 27 and 29, at the Social Academy. Its objective is to train educators and young people, promote community awareness and encourage the exchange of good practices in working with young people between different countries.

Next, we had the signing of a protocol with the Jean Piaget University of Cape Verde, and finally, the signing of a cooperation protocol between the Social Development Hub and the NGO Platform.

The Social Academy was created to support and strengthen social organizations in Cape Verde. It will be a space where people will have the opportunity to learn, share ideas, and develop skills to improve the impact of social work and the management of organizations.
