The project\u00a0Safebook Horizons \u2013 New Methodologies in Youth Work<\/strong>, co-financed by the Erasmus+ Youth program, emerges with the innovative concept of promoting a culture of safety among young people between the ages of 15 and 30.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Coordinated by\u00a0Klub za Osna\u017eivanje Mladih 018 (KOM 018)<\/strong>from Serbia, the project brings together organizations from Italy (Beyond Borders<\/strong>), Bulgaria (YES<\/strong>), South Africa (CUFA SA<\/strong>), Tanzania (Safe Island for Women and Children \u2013 SIWaC<\/strong>) and Cape Verde (Social Development Hub \u2013 SDH<\/strong>The initiative, lasting 30 months, aims to strengthen the culture of youth safety through new youth work methodologies and the development of a new edition of the manual.\u00a0\"Safebook<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The central objective is to create an international network of young people, workers, and youth educators committed to promoting youth safety. Safebook Horizons addresses six essential dimensions of youth safety and well-being: peer violence, cyberbullying, discrimination, substance use, mental health, and reproductive health. Through the empowerment of professionals and young leaders, the project introduces innovative pedagogical tools, including visual methodologies such as conceptual photography and graphic design, to promote inclusion, prevention, and active participation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The first in-person meeting took place from January 27th to 29th in Praia, Cape Verde, at the headquarters of the Social Development Hub, bringing together all the consortium partners. This event marked the official start of the project, allowing for detailed planning of activities for the 30-month implementation period, the definition of responsibilities, and strategic alignment between Europe and Africa.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Research and development of the new Safebook Manual<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

The project begins with an in-depth research phase in the six partner countries, including documentary research and focus groups with over 360 young people, of whom at least 50% are young people with fewer opportunities. This phase will result in six national reports and six policy briefs, which will form the basis for the new edition of the manual.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Simultaneously, an international seminar on research methodologies will be held in Serbia, training youth workers to conduct national analyses on youth safety.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Based on the data collected, a new edition of the Safebook manual will be developed, including new workshops on reproductive health and updates to existing methodologies. The manual will be reviewed by experts and translated into the languages of the partner countries, becoming a practical tool for youth work in European and African contexts.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

International training and local testing<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

In August 2026, an international training course will take place in Serbia, bringing together youth workers and educators from the six countries. Subsequently, each partner will organize Info Days and local workshops to test the manual with young people from their communities, involving more than 180 participants and promoting the development of creative awareness-raising tools.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Youth as protagonists: advocacy and participation<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

In 2027, the project will enter a phase of strong youth participation. An international seminar in Italy will empower young people to intervene in public policies and democratic processes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Activities led by young people themselves will follow, including youth dialogues, public debates and meetings with policymakers, resulting in the production of six policy papers with concrete proposals to improve youth safety at the local and national levels.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

An international youth exchange program in Bulgaria will also enable the creation of innovative digital campaigns, strengthening intercultural dialogue between young Europeans and Africans.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Safebook international campaign<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Between June 2027 and March 2028, an international online and offline campaign will be implemented, marking relevant dates such as International Youth Day, World Mental Health Day, and International Education Day. The campaign will include street actions, public exhibitions, podcasts, interviews, online quizzes, and workshops in secondary schools on digital safety and reproductive health.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Closure and multiplication of impact<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

In the final months of the project, each country will organize multiplier events to disseminate the results and tools developed. The project will culminate in a final conference in South Africa, where the results, impacts, and recommendations for youth policies will be presented.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Safebook Horizons represents a bridge between Europe and Africa in promoting safer, more inclusive and participatory environments for young people. By combining research, capacity building, youth participation and public campaigns, the project aims to leave a sustainable legacy in youth work and contribute to a global culture of safety and well-being. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
